Ottawa Taichi Chuan Association News (Aug. 18, 2014)

This year, OTCA has such a busy yet wonderful summer. OTCA has enjoyed nice summer practicing taichi at Dow’s Lakes between June and August. We also had summer classes for taichi push hand and taichi bang, which were enjoyable by many members. We also demonstrated in the Ottawa Dragon Boat Festival and Nepean Community Sports Day to promote taichi.

September is coming soon, and OTCA will be back to the Adult High School (300 Rochester Street). On September 6 and September 13, between 9:30AM and 11:30AM, OTCA will have our open house. We will demonstrate different taichi style and qigong. We welcome all taichi enthusiasts to join our open house. The open house event is free of charge. If you would like to join us as a member, you can also sign up during our open house (annual fee is $35 per member). OTCA will also offer various taichi style classes starting September; you can also sign up the classes during our open house ($65/semester).

OTCA has been formed 30 years now. We are very fortunate to have many outstanding taichi masters who love to share taichi to enthusiasts. This year, we will have:

· Master Yuan De An teaching Traditional Yang Style 85-Form

· Master Gang Wang Gang teaching Wu Style Taichi

· Master Wang Kwei Rong teaching Chen Style Small Form

· Master James Tam teaching Chen Style Practical Method

Same as last year, our classes have a limit of 20 students per class, first come first serve. For the ones who missed last year great opportunity to learn from these outstanding taichi masters, don’t miss this opportunity again this year. Note, September is the only time we allow new registration of classes.

OTCA always listens to the wishes of our members. Many members expressed their willingness to learn Taichi Fan. OTCA will form new beginning Taichi Fan practice group (maximum 10 members) starting late October at Tom Brown Arena (141 Bayview Road). For the members who are interested to join this practice group, please contact Holly Heng. There will also be a practice group for Chen Style Practical Method for members who desire to practice together. The arena is also available for other members who want to practice together free of charge.

Certainly, taichi is an excellent exercise for respiratory system, digestion system, and blood circulation. With our 30 years of history, we have been blessed that last year, we had over 100 members and students practicing taichi together on every Saturday mornings. OTCA is a non-profit organization, which is well recognized, by general public. OTCA welcomes all taichi enthusiasts regardless of age.
